Angelica, after a one-year dialysis treatment and a half year of treatment, was ready for her biggest operation of all - a kidney replacement. Her mother was the sole person who was able to donate the kidney. Angelica as well as her mom underwent the surgery to remove their kidneys successfully on 13 September 2013. The surgery was performed at Emory University Hospital and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston, two hospitals located across from one another.
